Goodbye Cheerfest, Hello Cheer-O-Mania!

SKM’s annual cheer competition has been revamped with a new name and focus.

The stunting component for open categories has been removed. Instead, the focus is now on cheer-dance routines for primary and secondary schools, in the renamed ‘Cheer-O-Mania’ competition.

To give students more time to practise, the competition has also been shifted to Preliminaries in July, and Finals in early August. This year’s competition will be held at United Square shopping mall.

By concentrating on a younger crowd, SKM hopes that the value and importance of graciousness can be better ingrained within participants. One way to do so is through the theme of this year’s competition: ‘Greetings’.

Greetings are important because they are the first step in creating friendships, yet many tech-savvy kids appear to have lost the simple art of saying “hello”. SKM hopes that participants can emphasize the significance of proper greetings using different phrases, unique hand gestures or even through different languages.

Stay tuned for more details on Cheer-O-Mania 2011 in the coming weeks!
