Students were invited in a black box to laugh and learn about ungraciousness - it only happens once a year.
Friends of Singa 2010 brought together students from over 125 schools in a span of three days to learn about kindness in an interactive and fun way at Black Box theatre in National Library.
During the first part of the workshop, students watched a drama performance by NeNeMas, which was broken down into 3 skits namely, “Run, Run, Run”, “Chiong” and “Soup”. Each skit displayed ungracious acts at different parts of society and all three sent one powerful message to its young audience – ‘You are capable of being kind even in difficult situations’.

We are often told to walk a mile in the persons’ shoes before we start to complain. Students were also invited to do the same during the second part of the workshop. Through a style called theatre forum, students were given the chance to change the situation in the skits, with their own decision and sometimes, help from the audience.

After the interactive learning at the theatre, students then sat with facilitators from iGrow to come up with potential ideas for their projects that aim to spread kindness in their school communities.

After each workshop, the students left the venue with smiles on their faces and a spirit that is ready to take on challenges in their schools.
The Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) wants to encourage everyone to start, show and share kindness. We aspire to inspire graciousness one kind act at a time. By sparing a thought for the people around us, we hope to create a gracious society, and make life better for you and me.
